10 Places to Get Free Website & Blog Headers And How To Add Them

Unless you’re an expert at and own Photoshop, getting nice website headers can be a real pain. Every website and blog should have a professional and content relevant header. It really builds authority and credibility in the site and it’s design can be elemental in creating the aura that a professional is behind the scenes and took the time to make the website or blog look its best.

You have several choices for creating a good header, one is to get a theme that comes equipped with one, whether it’s a website template or a WordPress theme.

Another option is to hire a coder to create one for you, there are plenty of websites that offer their services for making headers, as well as freelancers on sites such as eLance where you can hire a web designer to make you a custom header. Another option is to buy software that you can use to build your own headers.

I personally have never come across a software that seemed worth the money. The final option is to get free website headers and then edit them yourself as needed, or just put them up as they are.

The free website header option is one that I have chosen to use for my sites and so far I have been able to create wonderful headers for my sites for free!

Most of the headers at those resources are just images, and so you may want to put in your site name, description or some other text to make them fit your websites and blogs.

The best way to do this for free is to use the open source GIMP software. This is truly a gem for all webmasters and a fantastic free Webmaster tool. It’s a complete image, photo and header editing and creating software.

How To Add Headers to WordPress Blogs or Websites

For most website software and WordPress you will find the code for headers in the Templates Files in the headers.php folder. For WordPress go to Appearance then Editor in your Admin Interface.

If you have never edited these files and feel uncomfortable then you should not do it.

1. Always backup and create a copy of the original code in case you mess something up.

2. Locate The correct Code String

<div id=”header”> section in your header.php

or it’s possible your pho file may also have…

<div id=”header”>

<div class=”headerimg”>

2. This is the code for adding You Particular header:

<a href=”http://domain.com/”><img src=”YOUR IMAGE LOCATION URL” alt=”discount perfume. women’s perfume.” width=”" height=”"></a>

This code will allow the header image to be linked to your home page. If you don’t want to do that you can just use:

<img src=”YOUR IMAGE LOCATION URL” alt=”discount perfume. women’s perfume.” width=”" height=”">

The Alt Tags are for the keywords you are targeting on your site. Google can’t read images, so you want to add the keywords for SEO and to give more relation to your keywords.

3. Add this code directly after

<div id=”header”>

or after

<div class=”headerimg”> (if you have that)

4. Adjust the width and height as needed to fit your theme.

In reality for many themes that allready have a header, this simple install will not actually work, for minimalist WordPress themes and those that have no header this will work perfectly! The header of this blog was made using one of the free headers I listed and edited with GIMP!
